The McCain commercial Does it contradict itself?

His statement about his grandfather, father, and himself being in the different war's but then turns arounds and states that he hates war. He was happy to enlist and fight for his country then shouldn't he have a backbone about the war today? I hate the war but we need to end this at the right time so that we have some soldiers return to their children and families
